About Us
The Affton Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary working partnership of business, industrial and professional people who recognize the wisdom of
coordinating their efforts for the Affton community betterment.
We are organized to promote the economic growth and development of our
area for the benefit of all our citizens. Chamber members believe that
service to the community is part of their responsibility as good citizens
and good neighbors. By participating in the activities of the chamber, all
of us, residents and business people alike, can continually make our area a better place to live and do business.
The Affton Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1947, is governed by an active
Board of eighteen directors. The directors are active business and community
leaders who are working toward the betterment of our area.
The Chamber continues to grow stronger each month. At present, we
have over 300 members. These members are not just numbers, but they are the positive
forces of our community's economic well-being. This membership is our united
voice in the civic, social, education, and business sectors of the Affton area. Need
some questions answered--Maybe the answer is here.
in 2010, after the Affton
Community Betterment Association (ACBA) disbanded, the chamber board of
directors voted to include an associate category of Retired Residents (over 62).
This category would have a very low annual cost and the Associate Members would
receive the monthly chamber newsletter, weekly updates (if they have Internet
access) and be invited to attend chamber functions. The dues for this category
was set at $25 for the year of 2010. The application form can be found on the Forms
page.
In 1997 to celebrate our 50th Anniversary, our members purchased
"Monopoly" squares and
we produced an Affton-O-Poly game. If you didn't purchase one by now, we
are sorry to tell you that there are no more available!!!
In 2000, we worked with a map production company to produce the first
ever map of Affton. They are available at the chamber
office. The cost is $2.00 and this includes the postage and handling to
mail the map to you. One side of the map is Affton and the other side is
Lemay. Stop by the chamber office behind Sam's Steakhouse and pick up
your FREE map.
In 2007, to celebrate our 60th
Anniversary, our members purchased a spot on customized playing cards and the
decks of cards are available at the chamber office for $5 per deck. They are available with blue or green backs, so you can purchase double decks. They make
a great gift or stocking stuffer for Affton residents and business people.
In early 2011 we published 7,000 new Community Directory and Buyer's Guides.
As of June 2011, over 5,000 have been either mailed to area businesses and
residents or available at the chamber
office, the Tesson Ferry & Weber Library, and at local member financial institutions.
Our member apartment complexes give one to each of their residents. This publication
is very popular with businesses and residents. It's a great way for residents to
look at what products and services are available for purchase thru chamber
members. All members received 2 free listings and hade the opportunity to purchase
an ad or enhance their listing with their web site address or tag line. You can
participate in the next publication by joining the chamber--it's very affordable.
The Affton-O-Poly, Affton map,
Decks of Cards, and Community Directory
are just 4 examples of opportunities we offered to our members as a
means to showcase their businesses. In October 2009, we held our 1st Business
Fair since 2004 and it was a success. The 3rd annual Affton Community Expo will be
held on October 25, 2011.
Check out our Commercial
Properties page for available property and
our Community News page for job openings at Chamber Member businesses.
We have recently added demographics to the History Page, so it is
time to take a long look at our web site!
We contracted for a Commercial Database to be
developed of all commercial property in 63123, so we can work in
conjunction with the St. Louis County Economic Council in attracting
businesses to the Affton area (63123) and it was updated in 2004 and again in
2007. We list the available property on our web site
and also on the Missouri LocationOne
web site. If you know of someone looking for a great community where they
can start their business, tell them about the web site and the LocationOne web
site.
We work behind the scenes supporting many different events
with donations such as the support we give each holiday season to families who had some bad luck in the past year and we
give
them a helping hand with gift certificates for area grocery stores and discount
stores.
We also support the local high school's Graduation Lock In
parties and other school events of our member schools, and Affton Days funds several scholarship programs.
IN 2007 we sponsored a table of Affton students at the Missouri Chamber of
Commerce St. Louis High School Symposium, an ethics seminar for students,
and in 2008 we sponsored a table of students at the
entrepreneurship seminar. Interested in membership? Click
